The Cycling Podcast presents Life in the Peloton
Ever wondered..
What does a day in the life as a Directeur Sportif (DS) of a cycling team looks like?
What is it really like in the team car during a race?
And what’s it like transitioning from rider to Directeur?
Well, this week on the pod I’ve got my mate, and DS at EF Education First, Tom Southam. Tom raced as a pro through Rapha Condor and Barloworld, then found his way to World Tour directing through Team Drapac-Porsche.
I thought I’d talk a little bit about how he got into directing and that transition over from racing professionally, then dive into the nitty gritty of what a DS actually does.
It’s a part mailbag episode, so thank you to everyone who sent in their questions for Tom and I, there were some great questions in there.
I hope you enjoy the insight into what our Sports Directors do at races and just how much more there is than what might be seen on TV. As you’ll hear I’m still finding stuff out too!
Enjoy guys and stay tuned for our episode of Talking Luft next week.
Cheers,
Mitch
